I have done this since I was a kid. I would stay up all night reading sometimes. I would try to just make it to the end of a chapter but then I would be so lost in the story that I had to read just "one" more chapter.

Yes, there have been times I would fall asleep reading because I wanted to read instead of sleep. :)

I did when I was younger and when the children still lived to home. Now because of the job that I do I make sure that I get enough rest. Teachers cannot fall asleep in a classroom with 30 or more students. That is a disaster just waiting to happen.

I used to do it almost every night when I was a kid, my mother is a teacher and encouraged my sister and I to read. I was so bad with reading rather than sleeping that my mum of all people had to confiscate my books from me before I went to bed! I still do it now that I live alone, but not quite to the same extent. :)

I not only preferred to read than sleep, I once called-in at my job (worked as 11-7 charge nurse), because I wanted to finish the book I started that day. :D

Sometimes, I would be so drawn into a book that I would love to read instead of sleeping, but only for a few hours. But, unfortunately, I have to get up at 5 for swimming, so I don't. Actually, nowadays, I have read almost all the books worth reading at my library.

When I'm immersed in a book, I read it till I'm dead tired and words start going blurry. But then I'll read the rest of the day when I wake up till I'm done it.

I really wish I could stay up for most of the night then sleep the next day. That way, I wouldn't get disturbed when I'm reading.

Reading > sleeping
There have been a few occasions where I'll stay up all night to read a book, or have finished one and had to immediately buy and start the second! It's never intentional. I'll be reading, look at the time and realize it's six in the morning. Glad I'm not the only one. :)

My mother still claims that I ruined my vision reading by moonlight and other low light when I was supposed to be sleeping as a kid. I still lose sleep preferring to finish the book I'm reading to resting. Note, this doesn't go over as well as it used to since my four year old doesn't care if I've slept or not. If he's up, I had best be as well.
