It really depends on what book I'm reading.

Most times I don't. But I will occasionally turn some music on in the background really low while I read.

It depends on what I am reading at the time. Right now, I am reading a biography of a radio DJ/Promoter, so I listen to classic rock music. Usually if I am reading late at night, which is alot of the time, it is quiet around the house. I can get my full read on during that time.

Not on purpose. If I'm reading in a place where music is on it usually doesn't bother me, but it tends to depend how into the book I am.

I can read as long as the sound of the music is not too loud.

Yes, I do. However, sometimes I prefer not to, especially if the book is that just good.

The only thing I can listen to in the background while reading is classical.

I can't read with any noise or distractions, I don't know why but I just can't. I end up rereading the same sentences over and over and over again and I can't really take anything in. With that being said though, I do find that when I get really really into a book and there's some noise around after I get into it I barely even notice because I'm so engrossed in the book.

However, strangely, whenever I studied in school reading textbooks or notes or whatever I had to have some music on-- usually classical because I couldn't listen to words, but still strange seeing as I can't read a book listening to the same.

Ultimately though I think most people find their comfortable spot for reading and that's where they go so what's it to me if you like to read while at a rock concert :P Just kidding, who does that!

Only if it's classical music or a movie score. If a song has words, I tend to repeat the lyrics in my head while they're playing, which is very distracting.

I may have listened to lyric-less music once or twice while reading before; I much prefer silence, except for the times when I'm reading a book with either a lot of nature in it or a Little House on the Prairie feel, in which cases I'll turn on my rain, waterfall, or bubbling brook sound effects on my little sound maker thingy. I'll also turn my waterfall on for "white noise" if I need to drown out the noise outside or something while reading.

Yes. It sets the mood. Hehehe.. Especially, if you have thought a song with the same meaning of what you're reading then I'll search for it immediately to feel it.! Hahaha. Though sometimes, it's distracting so I switched to instrumental music. If I'm reading a book about love then I'll listen to love songs. If I'm reading a passionate book then I'll listen to passionate songs. If I'm reading a book that is inspirational then I'll play songs that are inspiring. If I'm reading an action book then I'll look for music that hypes me up. I'm a book lover as well as a music lover and I just love it!

I like listening to music when I read, but only if it goes on in the background and doesn't interrupt my thoughts while reading. I use 8tracks often and play some playlist of ambient music, or indie rock. I enjoy classical music too, especially piano.

Usually if it's a really good book, I have to have complete silence so I can immerse myself in that world.
