Re: Reading over sleeping

While most people read to relax and fall asleep, reading draws me into the storyline in a way that makes me much less likely to fall asleep! I go to work tired many mornings :)

Who needs sleep, anyways? I probably do, but reading is a much better choice.

Reading is right up there with breathing. Sleep can wait a little while more.

I've found it very rare for that to happen to me, but books with shorter chapters make it a lot harder to put down. Without Consent by Kathryn Fox was really good.

Just did Sunday night!!! I kept thinking one more chapter and I've got to go to sleep. Made for a VERY long Monday but I'm sure I will do it again in the near future! :D

I once stayed up all night re-listening to a 4 cassette audio book. I thought that by listening to the same tape twice in a row would get me to sleep but I ended up staying up until after the sun rose and I had heard the whole book twice.

Staying up all night reading is definitely one of my longest running faults. I used to completely reverse cycle during the summers as a teenager because of this. Now as an adult, I'm constantly kicking myself for staying up too late reading. I'll tell myself that I'll read just a little bit before I go to sleep, and then I look up at it's like 4:30 a.m. and I'm freaking out! It drives my husband crazy.

Yes, I most absolutely have chosen to continue read over sleeping. That's how I know that I really and truly like a book, that I can not put it down. I choose reading over sleeping, eating, going out. There is nothing better than being curled up with a good book. I still remember in my younger days when I would try everything I could to stay up to read. I would put clothes at the bottom of the door so the light wouldn't show through. When that didn't work, I started using light from my digital clock to read. Reading has always been one of my most favorite hobbies.

Exactly! Sleeping is such a waste of time when the heroine is in peril. For sure something will happen while I'm sleeping!

Indeed! Sometimes I do wonder, what will happen if the book suddenly chooses to run off into the wild, without me? Then I'll never know what happens next :? . Escpecially with Dan Browns books I have the tendancy to skip sleep for reading that 'one' chapter.

I once fell asleep reading Realms at about half past one in the morning in Australia when my maternal grandmother was still alive.
Recently, I was reading Inferno by Dan Brown, and that's a book I would love to stay awake all night reading. I started reading it at about half past ten in the evening and realised what the time (half past three in the morning) was when I'd read three thirds of the way through.

That is when I get the most amount of reading done. When I am at my bed and about to go to bed, I tell myself a chapter a day and sooner or later, I finish the book in two big chunks but with a terrible sleep deficit.

Yes, and kids have really made this part of my life difficult. It's tough staying up until 1am because I just have to know what is going to happen and being woken up two hours later because someone wet the bed (or is thirsty, had a nightmare, wants to discuss the history of electricity, etc.). I have recently caught my daughter reading under the covers two hours after her bedtime. Like mother like daughter!

I am contantly reading late in to the night instead of sleeping. I am glad of my kindle because now I don't lose my place when I fall asleep.
