Ever 3 months i must buy another shelf and it is quite a joy when i finaly complete another shelf. The dark side of it, is that i hate ugly book covers. And even if I know some book is worthless but has a pretty artwork i buy it.
That said, I confess I own books on my TBR list that i know i will never read, so i have two lists, "To be Really Read" (TBRR) and "To be read if i read all the good books and by somehow i stop buying another ones" (TBRIIRATGBABSISBAO)
Actualy my TBRR is not too extensive, on top of it I have:
"The girl who kicked the Hornets nest" Stieg Larsson (Millenium 3, i taken a break after Millenium2 to raise my expectations)
"Brisngr" Cristopher Paollini (I am finishing Eldest right now")
"The Battle of the Apocalipse" Eduardo Sphor (This makes a Huge Sucess here on Brazil)
"The Chronicles of the emerged World" Licia Troisi
"The Dark Tower VII" (I am disapointed with the sixth book but still must finish)
"The Name of the wind" Patrick Rothfuss

I wonder what your family thinks about this intense book buying habit of yours. I really liked that TBRIIRATGBABSISBAO.. lol. You should try writing a book too, my sense tells me you would do wonders with it..keep.walking wrote:I love to buy books, I would say I buy one ever week. It is kind of a Hobby. And I hate to read books that arent mine, even those from libraries. I MUST own the book i am reading, and I must have it on my shelf.

Not one bit funny ... I'm petrified of ESS. I move books from my To Be Read shelfs to my Read but Will/Might/Ought To Read Again in the Future shelves. I really get the gitters if I notice the To Be Read shelves starting to look even slightly vacant. And if anyone interferes with my filing system I go ballistic (not a pleasant sight!).keep.walking wrote:What about "Empty Shelf Syndrome"? This has even an acronym: E.S.S
Do you have E.S.S? Sounds funny huh?
That's one of my concerns about ereaders ... if I can't visualize the books on it will I have an ESS breakdown and have to be rushed by air ambulance to Waterstones or the Amazon warehouse? Are emergency personnel aware of ESS and would they be able to identify the symptoms? Maybe we should invent some kind of alert bracelet like you can have for diabetes or epilepsy ... on the lines of 'Do Panic & get me to a bookshop immediately'
Life is tough for ESS sufferers ... so glad we have this support group

It nice to buy books and if possible having your own library update with your taste of books, because in time to come these books maybe not be in the bookshop anymore and you may like to read them again.......Alexa12345 wrote:
Mmm, it's an option, but who doesn't want to have his/her own library? Times are changing so maybe after couple of years you'll want to come back to reading. Than you have to have "ammo":).
