50 Shades Of Grey

I made an attempt at reading this, quite famous, book.
Within the first paragraph I was strongly disappointed. There were several occasions in which a comma was needed, but not used. And the style of writing was very poor, in my opinion, for such a well known book. I had a very hard time reading it with it being so poorly written and having to pause in my head, since there were no commas.
I feel like I would be a better editor/writer, and I'll admit that I have only a very vague idea as to what I'm doing!
Did anyone else have problems getting past the first few paragraphs?
