If you like Charles Dickens, you would like the work of Charles Palliser. He wrote The Quincunx in 1989, which is set in 19th century England, and 5 other works.

Dickens considered David Copperfield to be his best novel. I would agree with his assessment.

Dickens was a genius. I have read all his books. Our Mutual Friend is my favorite, but to balance out the gloom of his later novels I love Pickwick.
