The cover has a large impact on me. If there is a mostly naked muscle bound man holding a woman on the cover I am not likely to read the book.

Or reading the description where the main conflict is centered around two characters that have a simple misunderstanding that blows out of proportion. It drives me crazy and I find it lazy writing.

Erotic notations turn me off (I'm staying away from 50 Shades). I think it's because I don't like descriptive sex scenes.

Another thing that can turn me off from choosing a book is a cover that makes the topic of the book look really violent and scary. :hand:

If the book has a boring beginning, I usually won't buy it unless it's highly recommended.

The summary. If the summary is bad, I wont choose it unless it has been recommended to me

When I find a new book, the first thing I do is find out if it's a stand alone or apart of a series. I can't stand starting a story knowing that I might be missing something. I need to read my books in order.

I always select a book by reading the description of it. So, some times description and especially the quality of the book turns me away from choosing a book.

Sometimes I like a book on the cover, but I must read the description and try to get acquainted with the book, so as not to surprise me later. There are certain things that I can't ignore myself and read, so I'm careful.

If the description of a book is boring, then I definitely would not be reading that book. The description ha to be really good.

If the book cover is plain and dull, I wouldn't even check the title

The biggest turnoff for me is the book cover. If I see that the cover isn't very attractive, I go for another book.

I tend to run from romance, almost completely. It's typical, predictable and just boring. And then the cover... If the cover is whack then we could try reading the description. If it does not convince me then I leave it.

One thing I have come to discover with books is that a reader should just choose books by instincts. There are books I turned down by just reading the blurb and somehow I later got to read those books and they were classic. I generally try to use the blurb and my instinct to pick a book to read.
