The Upside of Being Let Down by Karolyn James writing as Lon

Post by Birdlady1950 »

When I started this book, I thought it was not my cup of tea, that for the first time I would not be able to write a positive review. I found I was very wrong. I was swept up in the story within a few pages.

This is the story of A. J., a young girl that just never seems to get her life on the right path. At times I felt so sorry for her, I wanted to cry when she was revealing how their parents treated her and Wendy as children; then other times I just wanted to shake her. She stopped going to her college classes and has been throw out of college, she stopped going to her part time job, her roommate has thrown her out and dumped her stuff in the hall, and she wants every man in her life to stop using her to get to her stripper sister, Wicked aka Wendy. A.J. meets a young man, Bryan, at the strip club and the attraction is intense from the start. She ends up staying the night with Bryan and having the most intense sex of her life. A.J.’s mantra is “don’t ruin it” when things get too intense. She is afraid of deep emotion because of the betrayals in her life. Bryan is a good man, maybe too good. He lets A.J. play her games of give and take. He knows she will be trouble for his heart. Bryan is always the one worried about someone, ready to help. His father is a drunk, an ex-con in a halfway house; he has never been there for him. His mother ran away years ago. These two people have a lot of stuff to get through. It was quite a ride to get to the end.

The authors, London Casey and Ana Fawkes did a wonderful job of bringing all the pieces together to create a cohesive story. The end of this story has quite a surprise for Wendy and A.J. I found this story intriguing, the sex was hot, the emotions were hotter.

I would recommend this book for young adult to adult due to sexual content.

I received this book from the author in return for an honest opinion.
