Your dogs, and do they read? ;)

Oh, thank you. Echo is a beautiful doggie. I got her on May 24, 2003, so I've had her for... twelve years. She was a year and eight months old when I got her, so she'll turn 14 on her upcoming September 10 birthday. I got her from a breeder. She was being bred for puppies at her young age, and had already had twenty baby doggies before she came to live with me.

I had her spayed, of course. But anyway, the reason that her breeder didn't want her anymore was that she's supersized--not overweight so much as she has a larger bone structure. Her breeder felt that her puppies were also too large, and it's apparently harder to sell puppies who aren't little and cute. So she didn't want Echo anymore. (She came with that name. I didn't name her. I felt it would be wrong to change her name.)

So Echo came to live with me for the fabulous price of $50!! She's a purebred English Springer Spaniel--I had her papers once upon a time, but I lost them years ago. Her pictures that I saw before I went to buy her just made her look sad and confined. She was certainly never a showdog like the ESS my mom had, who was gorgeous and knew it. When we brought her home, I rode in the backseat with her, but as soon as we brought her inside, she ran out the front door and fled.

We tracked her down. Apparenly, she was easy to tail, since very few dogs have obviuosly been nursing their young recently. (Her mommy parts were incredibly droopy, full of milk.) When we finally caught up to her, I approached her and asked if she wanted to try living with us. I told her I understand it's scary and she's homesick, but would she be willing to take a chance on us? She agreed, and we took her home. She didn't run away again.

Wow, that is amazing!! I detest certain breeding practices and that would be one of them. Grrrrrr. How awesome though that you tracked her down and she came with you, I love that story. I saw my first dog, Chino, at the Humane Society and thought he was really cool when I walked him. When I went back to get him there were a bunch of dogs and a couple looked alike so i couldn't remember who he was. Well then I watched this Chihuahua continually "attack" a dog that looked like Chino, who took this over and over before backing this Chihuahua into a corner like, "Ok, I was nice, but now I've had enough of your crap." He then walked over and jumped in my lap and wouldn't leave the rest of the time. He remembered me and was like, "yup, your mine, let's go!"

I don't have dogs, but my cats love my books. Whenever Falcor thinks I have read enough he lays on my book. I have a few videos of him laying on a closed book and when I try to take it away, he grabs and pulls it back to him. Hence the name: Literary Cat.
