I predominantly shop online where the websites have a "wishlist" section, however, I carry a Kikki K planner with me everywhere I go. I carry the planner with me because i'm so bad at utilizing my time and you need to do that when you work over 40 hours a week..
In my planner I do have a 'TO READ' section, so I guess that counts!

I have a list for read by year, to-read, to buy, one for the books I own and another for this year's challenge.

That is what I do. I have a list on goodreads and if I am at the library I pop it up and see what they have or can order from other libraries. Occasionally when I am shopping and don't know what to get I will go through that list and see what stands out at that moment.

Until this past July, I've reviewed mysteries for a well-known website so I'd normally have a stack of new books to review sitting on my desk (these books are all professionally published and in hard copy). This meant that most of my new book reading was absorbed by 6-8 new mysteries per month.

Then I landed a 3-book contract with a publisher myself, and since then I've been up to my ears with editing and prepping my 3 private eye novels and working on the 4th, and had to temporarily suspend my other fiction reading, as well as taking a temporary sabbatical from my reviewing.

So my "to read" list has accordingly settled upon my own novels and I've scarcely able to do much else. So no list for a while.

I do that when I'm going book shopping. I usually go with a long list because I know I won't find 70% of them , and I wouldn't be able to remember all the titles and authors, so I keep a list on my phone.

I've got that one exception, a true story... Some years ago I was out with a girlfriend, a nice Saturday, and she wanted to go to this estate sale and look at some of the furniture. Nothing I would normally want to do, but being a nice guy (yeah, right) I took her.

While she was going thru the furniture, I saw a shelf of old books, and being a bookworm, I went over and began to browse. I saw a book, thought "No, it cannot be" and took the book and looked at it. I asked the sale guy "How much?" and he said, "Oh, it's in pretty good shape. Twenty bucks." And that twenty was out of my wallet so fast that the ink was left hanging in the air.

I'd bought a FIRST edition of James Joyce's "Ulysses", Shakespeare & Co., Paris, 1924.

I use a Kindle so, I put all the books I want or TBR books on my ebook wishlist. I do this so if any books or series goes on sale I don't miss any. I'm a bargain shopper and an ebook hoarder. I get carried away because I can't see the books stacking up in front of me! :o :o

I have a note in my phone that is constantly lengthening and changing. I look at it when I wander into a bookstore or library.

Do you carry around a list of books you'd like to buy? For example if you start a new series do you write down the rest of the series so you know what to look for when shopping?

Or maybe you keep a list of what you already own to avoid double ups.

I have a little notebook in my bag full of books that i want to buy, especially helpful when I'm surrounded by books and don't quite remember the title.
I make notes on phone in stores and bookshops.

But really need to have a list of books I have at home and on pc that should be read while I have the spare time!

Oh, yes, I keep a small notebook with books I want to read, so when I get to a bookstore, I have a plan. Just like grocery.shopping, if I do not have a list, I end up buying more than I planned.
I also have a notebook of books that I have read, date read, my thoughts on the book, and the author. I would eventually like to put it all in a comput Dr program , alphabetized by author.

Once, when I was in high school my dad dropped me off at the book store and told me to make a list of the books I wanted. I had a full notebook by the time he came back and hadn't even left the science fiction section.... Now I have several lists of books I want ranging from continuing series to attempting the finish The Canon List of books and new books are being added every day. I'm fairly certain at this point it would be cheaper to buy a few libraries....
