No, I need to read in a quiet place in order to appreciate a book. Music tends to distract me.

I'm more likely to have a familiar movie or show on for background rather than music while I'm reading, or silence, though I'm not a huge fan of complete silence. Listening to music I enjoy while reading changes how I read my book, as well as often distracts me because I get caught up in a song I haven't heard for a while or one I particularly enjoy. Having something without lyrics doesn't seem to help either, my thoughts just seem to drift more than focus on the words in front of me. Perhaps I just haven't tried enough, but I just never really put music on for background to read.

Never tried reading with music deliberately but I'm fine with it playing while I read I guess. I prefer classical/some ambient stuff, no words, if I am listening to something while reading... I do enjoy white noise or the sound of rain while I read though, maybe it's just me but I find it calming and not as distracting

I am able to read with music playing, but it definitely takes more effort than I like. I definitely prefer silence while I'm reading more thn anything else, like several of you have said.

I prefer silence, but if not classical only. No lyrics, as they distract me.

I don't. I can't focus if I hear a music or other sounds. A need a silence.

Nope. There would be no point. I tune everything out when I'm reading a book.

I really prefer quiet when I read . However, I do enjoy listening to the music of Nature while I read. It is soothing to read outside. Listening to music is its own experience and requires its own quiet to fully absorb the experience. Too much multi-tasking in the world today.

For some reason, I like the TV on while I read. I think I just like the noise, but not actually what's on the TV. I would listen to music, however I think I would get distracted since I love the music so much.

I prefer silence when I read. However, if music or other noise is going on in the background I can still read without a problem. It doesn't bother me that much.

I tune everything out when I'm reading, I get totally enthralled with the story. So music or no music wouldn't make a difference.

It depends on what I am reading. If it's a textbook (or any book I am trying to pull information out of) I usually create a playlist with roughly 10 songs to listen as I read. I find it helps me associate songs to particular sections that I am reading at that time. Sometimes I find it distracting though - I get the lyrics mixed up with the words on the page LOL.

No way. I have to place all of my attention on the book. I also cant focus if I get to a slow part and there is something else going on.
