Birdsong stands up well all these years on, but is a bit far fetched in parts. I do like faulks' writing style a lot however.

Ken Fullett wrote a number of excellent HF novels - one of my favorites was Pillars of the Earth. This followed a stone mason's family as they looked for work - hoping to find work where a cathedral was being built. Another one was Jack Daws which was about those individuals who were in the underground French resistance during WW2.

I'd love to have the genre be mystery/horror. I enjoy Thrilling books as well but I always find myself never being able to put the book down when there's a mystery involved.

Thank you @gali! I will definitely have to give this a try. I remember watching the Disney version of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and absolutely loving it. I can only imagine how great the actual book is! Thank you!

The book is very historical (which is why I picked it), so it won't have the sweet and sickly honey of the film. In fact, it's much darker. Just a heads up

Yeah...I can only imagine how dark it would be. Usually, Disney movies fluff everything up. Thanks for the heads up! When I start reading it, I'll definitely keep that in mind
