Not when I read books, but I do when I read texts. Weird, huh?

I do find myself doing whatever it is that the character in the book does...eyes widen, jaw drops, head tilits, scowls, smirks, etc. Luckily, I don't read in public too often!

For me, any movement, mouth or otherwise, slows me down. So I rarely move a muscle.

Initially, I don't. Then, as I get engrossed with the story I would start to move my mouth without noticing it

Any physical movement which is in accordance with the text would slow me down. So, no, never.

I don't move my mouth when I read. I read a lot faster when it's "in my head". I've noticed when I read out loud to someone else, I read much slower.

Only occasionally when I get really excited about a book I'm reading. Or sometimes when I am trying to make sense of whatever I am reading.

Whenever I'm trying to read something quickly, I find it very odd that I become more audible than when I try to read at leisure. It seems counterproductive actually. But reading aloud definitely helps to keep focused rather than letting my mind wander as I read.

Sometimes, to avoid the boredom that will come if the book you read is very very long. But most of it I don't move my mouth while reading.

Sometimes if I am having trouble concentrating I will mouth the words or say them out loud. I also find myself doing it sometimes when there is a really intense section!

As I said, no, never, ever. Learned to build that little reading shell around myself as a kid and have always maintained this. So when I read, I'm perfectly motionless except when I turn the page -- no movement, no gestures, no outward signs at all.

As a child, I was taught to 'read in my head' so as not to disturb others and the habit has stuck! I am quite as a mouse when reading.

Same here, Katie. My little pals would always be reading aloud and it irritated me to be with them. My folks were like yours -- read to yourself, otherwise it's rude.

Of course in my life I've done lotsa rude things but reading aloud or moving my mouth isn't one of them, ha ha. Also, it slows you down.

The only time I will ever move my mouth while I'm reading is if I'm having trouble concentrating. For example if I'm trying to read in a room where there are a lot of people talking then I find that mouthing the words I'm reading helps me stay focused on the book.

For me, the opposite. If I'm in a distracting environment, I buckle down and go totally into my shell, no movement, no outward sign, all of it in the mind.
