I tend to steer clear of celebrity and political autobiographies; especially if the individual is still alive. There is just too much incentive for making yourself look good and there is not enough historical distance to provide sufficient factual references to double-check or contextualize what is written. I also just don't care what most celebrities have to say about any number of things and politicians tend to use their "story" as a way to plug some pet projects or set themselves up for talk show host gig.

Definitely cozy mysteries. They seem so mediocre and too safe. If I want to read a mystery, I want it to be gory and scary. I want it to involve monsters in human form, or spiritual even. For some reason, the "Colander Mystery" doesn't sound appealing to me in the least.

Vampire fantasy, erotica. Ugh. Not my cup of tea at all. I am not crazy about romance, but if it's really good with a well-thought out story, I might read it.

I don't like the romance-only books. Books like the Harlequin Romance books make me want to yack. The story lines are pretty much the same. There's no real plot, except boy meets girl, somebody plays hard to get, then there's a chance encounter, and then the clothes come off with some really hot and heavy panting. Nope! Just not that into romance. Also, I don't care for that urban sex books, either. I'm not sure if that's what category they are, but these books are just porn in print. I don't mind if a little romance is thrown into an otherwise captivating read. But, yeah, I hope to never have to review a strictly romantic novel.

I steer clear from horror (because I get way too scared while reading some) and erotica (because it makes me uncomfortable). I also dislike romance because it's often too cheesy and simply gets on my nerves, although I have my favorites like Fifty Shades of Grey, Gossip Girl, and Heartless.

Horror. I prefer something fun. I tend to create enough horror stories in my head that don't need any extra encouragement.

Romance. I find it so unrealistic but yet not fantastical enough to enjoy. Just ends up reading cheesy to me.

Exactly what happens with me as well. It sounds so cheesy and boring, but mostly predictable.

I generally stay away from Romance and Horror. I did read horror as a kid but it just doesn't hold the same appeal to me now as an adult.

I never read those self-help books. After a few pages they either "teach" you what you already know or run you around in circles till you wind up right back where you started.

I have read a lot of those instructional Dummy books though. In fact I have read so many of them that the publisher has awarded me a Ph.D in "gross stupidity".

I normally try to stay away from romance novels, I normally find them either unrealistic, sad or predictable. I like books that are suspenseful and keep me guessing about what's going to happen next.

I think the genre that I stay clear of is horror. Don't get me wrong there are some great authors in this genre Stephan King for example. But to me I like stories that have good plot and don't include a whole lot of violence or gore. But than maybe this is what has set King apart in the horror genre he may do horror but he also does good plot along with narrative. I have never read his books myself, but I have a brother who has and said that he was a good author even if his books did get out there horror wise.

I don't read romance and erotica. I'm not a mushy type girl so I find romance to be boring and slightly annoying. I stay away from erotica typically because I want to immerse myself into the story not be blushing and embarrassed to turn the next page.

Erotica, mostly. It gives me a dirty feeling inside and I don't like that... It drives me nuts when I'm in the middle of a good book and suddenly there are two or three pages of smut! (Unfortunately George RR Martin fits this category, brilliant author, magical way with words, but I couldn't keep reading when I kept running into that.) Other than that I don't mind a good clean romance, especially if it's witty. I don't like horror stories, though, nightmares are no fun.
