although i love romance novels, i don't like historical novels. they generally aren't accurate historically and its used as a decoration rather than a setting

I can usually find something I like in all genres. Except sports. Is that a genre? Lol

I see so much dislike of historical fiction which is sad. There are lots of good historical fiction novels out there that are amazing. I stay away from Horror just because I can't handle it, and also romance if I can. Many times the romance can seem a little forced. It makes me groan.

Horror books and graphic violence. They make me have nightmares.

Erotica and New Age, mostly. It's just not my thing.

Horror... I don't seek it out, but I do like certain authors, like Sarah Rayne.
The rest are fair game for me - as long as the blurb is appealing and the cover is decent, I'll probably read it.

Paranormal Young Adult Romance. A.K.A. Vampire and Werewolf books. They are just so over done and they all seem exactly the same plot wise. However, if someone recommends a book to me that they swear is phenomenal I might still look at it in hopes that my preconceived notions of the genre are wrong.

I know, right? I don't know if anyone on here has ever been on Wattpad, but the young adult paranormal romance books on there tend to leave more than a bit to be desired too. I think I flinch every time I see titles like "The Alpha King's Mate" or "The Vampire Lord Kidnapped Me!" The ya paranormal romance books are just too much to handle sometimes.

That and the Angels and Demons sector of paranormal romance can be pretty cringe worthy too.

I suppose it's because vampires, werewolves, and demons are all the ultimate "bad boy" characters. Think about it. Chances are, most people have had at least one nightmare referring to the three I mentioned and a lot of the mentality around liking a bad boy often has to do with the fact people know they should be wary, if not afraid, of them.

But that being said, that certainly puts the angel as the odd man out.

Your theory tends to make sense.

Also scrolling through Nook and Kindle there are oodles and oodles listed as free. I'd rather read the back of a soup can to be honest

Horror. They always go too far for me to enjoy it.

Horror - same here. And YA does seem to be drifting toward dragging these readers in as adults more than kids. Teen books should be good for the reader, and not feeding them adult themes.

I typically steer clear of the YA romance novels because they are often very similar and cliche. I enjoy reading novels with a more realistic and serious approach. However, I do occasionally read a YA romance book when I need something more lighthearted after a difficult week.
