I’ll Run to You by Nikki Vale is a love story about a young mother, Evelyn Woods and the one that got away, Hunter Douglas. We all have that one guy we had a crush on our entire life, possibly a sibling’s friend. Is it just a crush, or is there really something there? Hunter has apparent commitment issues and is always on the run. He leaves Evelyn wondering if her feelings are justified. Events unfold leaving Evelyn, Evie, upset, angry, and questioning her feelings.
Evie has made strides to become successful. Although a young, single mother, she completes her degree in accounting and is able to support McKinley. She is ready to move on but finds it difficult. How will she react when Hunter shows back up? Will he run again? Can she trust him and truly let him in?
The author did a great job developing the characters and story. I could not put the book down; I had to find out the chain of events that led them to the current situation. I was constantly wondering who is McKinley’s father. McKinley is the daughter of Evelyn. Was the story she told McKinley regarding her father true or made up. Once you figure out whom all of the characters are and get the entire back story, the story unrolls rather quickly. For as long as it took for this love story to evolve, the author wasted no time getting them to the end destination. I wouldn’t necessarily want it to be dragged out, but it definitely moved faster than expected.
The friends and family members in this story were an interesting bunch of characters. I would love to read a few more books following the love life/relationships of these individuals. I liked that they were all very different but were such great friends. They all brought different aspects to the story and kept it interesting. Gina and Megan were such great friends to Evelyn and always brought new perspective. Trevor, Evelyn’s brother, who was not confided in regarding the relationship/past between Hunter and Evelyn, was intuitive enough that he knew the relationship between them was something worth working out.
I enjoyed reading I’ll Run to You by Nikki Vale. It was a sweet romance; a page turner that is hard to put down (I finished the book in 24 hours). I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I look forward to many more books by this author. If you’re looking for a quick read with a good romance story, this one is for you.
