Horror and Sci Fi. Just not my thing. I'm more a non-fiction, or at least believable fiction type of guy. Humor is my favorite though.

Not sure if this counts as its own genre, but I really dislike vampire stories, including in film and tv. I find it too nauseating. So no Dracula or True Blood for me!

I tend to avoid novels that centre around peoples personal issues, like "Eat, Pray, Love" that one never seemed to attract my attentions.

I wouldn't consider reading anything that may be considered horror, or even vaguely scary. As any avid reader knows, the characters in a book become far more real to us that movie characters, and I'm afraid that I would be unable to sleep until well after the book was finished; even then, I suspect that memories of it would pop into my head just upon sleepy time. :(

Can't do romance, unless we're talking about a classic like Pride and Prejudice. I have a hard time getting into nonfiction books, but I don't necessarily steer clear of them. I just usually give up halfway through it. :?

anomalocaris wrote: Romance, because I can't get excited about whether 2 people I don't know end up in bed together. When they try to mix it with other genres, the characters come across as eejits, because they're supposed to be dealing with some serious situation, and they instead they act like sex-crazed teenagers. Like, "He knew his best friend would bleed to death if he didn't get some pressure on the bullet wound, but right now the only pressure he could think of was the pressure of her body on his..."
Hahaha, I feel the same way, I really just can't connect with romance novels, the characters never act rationally or logically. Unless the romance is second to some other aspect of the plot, I don't even pick up the book.

I tend to shy away from romance novels because I find the stories formulaic and boring. I have a difficult time becoming immersed in stories with more of a romantic aspect than anything else. I feel as though romance novels or stories are supposed to be somewhat realistic, but they do not feel realistic to me, which makes them difficult for me to put together or wrap my mind around.

Horror and Erotica....to me they are both cheap way out of writing. I have a vivid picture in my mind when I'm reading and that's just not what I want stuck in there. On another end, Christian fiction is really hard genre to find anything worth reading. It's so cheesy and fake and when living a Christian life perfect and cheesy isn't real life.

I don't think there is a specific genre I would avoid entirely. There are books I have devoured which didn't seem to fit the "norm" of what I would read. I do not like to peg myself into a category and leave out the possibility of learning and growing from a specific book, even if it's a genre I am not usually drawn to. Instead I try to let the book speak to me and pique my interests.

Westerns; anything religious themed

I steer clear of Erotica because that's just not a part of my taste. I also steer clear of horror because I've tried to read horror books but every single horror book I've read has disappointed me and none have even remotely stirred my emotions. But I would still love to find a horror novel that could actually creep me out. :P
