Raine “RJ” Jagger wants nothing to do with men right now. After fleeing her life and her family, RJ settles in Chicago and starts a bartending gig at The Blue Dolphin Lounge. Hoping to move on with her life, the last thing RJ expects is River - a tall man who oozes sex appeal. She can tell immediately that River is a nothing but a love ‘em and leave ‘em type of guy, and she knows he has his eyes set on her. RJ tries to avoid and ignore River’s advances, but gets drawn in, nonetheless.
River never really cared who he slept with; he didn’t do relationships, and all the ladies knew that. But when he heads to The Blue Dolphin Lounge to let off some steam, he meets RJ – the new girl. There is something about her that enthralls him. She is the only person who has ever made him consider monogamy as an option. He will do anything to have RJ for his own.
Unfortunately, when you run from your past and don’t think of the consequences, things can come back to hurt you. As River and RJ enter into a relationship, River’s many conquests are determined to come between them, and RJ’s past comes back in the most unwelcome way. A relationship between River and RJ seems like there could never be a happy ending with both of their pasts trying their hardest to come between them.
Rendered Speechless is a steamy, witty, but also quite serious contemporary romance novel. The chemistry between Raine and River jumps out at the reader. The main and supporting characters are well written and rounded. There were quite a few plot twists that kept the reader interested to see what could possibly happen next. My favorite thing about Rendered Speechless was the playful banter between RJ, River, and RJ’s best friend, Devon – it provides the reader with plenty of laughs.
The book seems to be free of any grammatical or punctuation errors; however, this book is extremely sexually explicit. The amount of explicit scenes in this book was overpowering. The amount of explicit scenes takes up a big portion of the book, sometimes taking over and blotting out the plot of the story. There were times where I just wanted to stop reading the book because it seemed that all that was in the book were the explicit scenes. It should also be mentioned that there is a lot of swearing throughout the book as well.
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance, as long as you don’t mind a lot of explicit scenes throughout. The witty banter between the characters will make you chuckle out loud, and the plot twists will keep the reader interested to the end. I think it goes without saying, but I would not recommend this to young adults – strictly 18+.
I have to give Rendered Speechless a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I give it three stars because I had points where I just wanted to set the book down and not read it anymore due to its explicit nature taking over. Getting past that, the banter and plot twists are what made me want to keep reading the book.

I am glad you gave a warning about the explicit scenes for readers who are not fans of that, though I really do not mind reading those at all! You gave a really good review!

Thank you! I was hoping to send the message that it's not that there are steamy bits in the book but there was just way too much of it overallhsimone wrote:Great review, Shiftmover07! You do a nice job explaining the book and I really get a sense of the positives and the points that might bother some. I'm not sure if it's for, though. I like some steamy scenes, but I don't like when they overpower the story. Thank you for the honest review!
