Features: Highlighting and Notes

Do you use the highlighting and note taking features on your Kindle App or E-reader? Have you found them helpful long term?

I am trying not to use as much paper while reading. I love taking notes when I read for reviews or book clubs. What I am finding is that I don't remember as many details if I don't physically write them down.

I have a kindle, but I don't use those features. I take notes on paper, as it more comfortable for me.

I have never needed those features as I read for relaxation, but I am sure I will try it when I review a book.

I have used them both. I find using the app on my pc is easier than on my fone, and then i can just make a note in notepad.... it is so much easier to remember for me as I have been using it for years and years.

I have never made notes on paper books I read. It seems terrible unpractical and would get me out of the flow immediately.
But I mark and comment a lot on my eBooks, it's a very important feature to me. And it's a lot easier to look back up again.

I love the highlight feature! I would never actually write in a book (I like to keep my books pristine), so I would always use sticky notes to mark a page where I like something, but that's not the best system. I love being able to just highlight something in an ebook and then pull up a whole file of things I've highlighted.

I only just started using the notes when I started writing reviews and I like that feature a good bit less. I'm finding I prefer to make my notes elsewhere.

I use the highlight feature and I love it, it makes it so easy to go back and find the stuff you want to find without having to deface a physical copy of a book.

I have a nook and I have in the past used the highlighting feature, even just for reading for relaxation. My nook (I am not sure about a Kindle but they probably have it) has a feature to define a word and it works whether I have wifi connection or not! That is literally my favorite feature, because I hate being the one to just skip a word i am unsure of. Although I use the highlight and defining features on my Nook, I do not highlight in my paper books. I personally think it ruins the book and the condition. For me being able to highlight certain phrases or words, makes it easier to go back and connect things that I am reading later on in the book.

I have used this feature. It's very convenient and fast. I hate having to have a notepad around all the time if I want to remember a point in the book I'm reading. It also disrupts the reading. I've been using the feature more and more lately.

I actually just used it when reading a book that I had to write a review on. It was really helpful to scroll back through the highlights when writing the review as it made sure the story line was still fresh in my mind.
