If you love the Bachelor, the Hunger Games, or love triangles, the Selection series is for you.

The novels follow the life of America Singer in a future version of the United States, now called Illea. In Illea, the caste system prevents many citizens from making a decent living, providing for their families, pursuing careers that they love and marrying whom they truly want to. The Selection is a process much like the Bachelor in which girls from all over the country apply for the chance to compete for the heart of the Prince of Illea. This is supposed to foster good will between the people and the monarchy. Somehow, America, who is a 5 in the caste system and in love with someone already, is chosen for the Selection.

The novels don't just focus on the romance aspect of the story line, but delve into class differences and family problems, adding a depth not often found in young adult writing. The last two books in the series propel us into the life of America's daughter, and her own Selection to find a husband, as well as the unrest that has resulted from some of America and her husbands own decisions.

Overall, I give the series 5 stars. As someone who reads a lot of YA, I would recommend this series to anyone.

I was absolutely in love with this book! I thought that the characters were really lovable and I especially enjoyed the dynamic between America and Maxon. Although the story was a lot like a fantasized version of The Bachelor, I couldn't help but love the plot and the writing style.

I really didn't like this book. I remember finding out about this series after having finished The Hunger Games series but the synopsis of this book sounded like The Bachelor so I passed on reading it. Eventually, months after, I decided to give it a try after hearing how popular it was and how great everyone thinks it is.
I really have no clue why this book is so popular. It is incredibly generic. The characters are all stereotypical, the plot is easy to guess and the writing has no spark to it. It seems like the author didn't put much thought into her story. Maybe the series will get better as it goes on but I'm at the end of the second book and I'm still disappointed.

I am currently reading this terrific book. I am trying to not to get frustrated at the parents and guardians in this story. As a mom myself, I have strong feelings about how to be a good parent, and I think it is making me struggle. I do enjoy the characters, though. My daughter calls Maxxon & America one of the best OTP's she has ever read. She has good taste so I will wait it out and finish what appears to be an epic love story.

To be honest, the series has a really good plot but I did not like reading the spinoff series with Eadlyn. I found her to be quite annoying and the plot to be meh.

I really enjoyed The Selection series. I feel the same way, I could not put it down. I have to say though, I have not read The Heir or The Crown, because I know *spoiler alert* that it isn't about America and Maxon. (I wont say anything else on that in case someone wants to read who hasn't) I really liked The One, probably the best out of the first 3. I'm a totally Team Maxon. I loved reading about him. I highly recommend this book for a quick read. It's not long, and I finished each on in the course of a day.

I will not lie when I say that I was obsessed with this book and the following two when I got them. I seriously dominated all of these books within one day, they were that addictive.
