The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks (spoilers)

This is more of a short summary of the book than a review. It does contain spoilers. I have not mentioned my thoughts on The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks, but have only mentioned most of what happened in the book. You are welcome to post your review in the replies section. Here goes:

Thibault (pronounced "T-bow") is in the army and is in Iraq. In Kuwait one day he goes for an early morning walk and finds a laminated photograph half buried in the dirt. After retrieving it and freeing it of the mud, he notices that it is a photo of a girl; on the back of the card are the words, 'Stay safe! E.' Thibault keeps the photo as a lucky charm, and it helps him survive eleven bombings. After going home to Colorado, he decides to go in search of the mystery girl whose name starts with an E. He walks across the country with his dog, Zeus, and finally tracks Elizabeth, or Beth, in Hampton. He takes up a job where he can be close to Beth. Beth tells him of her brother, Drake, who had also been posted in the army in Iraq. He died. Beth had sent a photo of herself to Drake, but he said he lost it. She never got around to sending him another picture. Thibault still didn't tell her he had the photo.

Beth had been married and divorced, and had a 10 year old son, Ben. Beth's ex, Keith Clayton, was still attracted to her and didn't want her dating anyone else. Far from Thibault, who he had hated the minute he set eyes on him. That was before he knew that Thibault was attracted to his Beth.

Thibault and Beth fell in love with each other. Keith caught them togeher and threatened Beth that if she didn't leave Thibault he would make Ben live with his father permenantly, as Ben was his son too. Ben heard them arguing and said he simply would NOT stay with his Dad. He ran out into the torrentous rain to his beloved tree house his grandfather had built for him years ago. It was rickety after such a long time, and had been liable to fall apart for many days. It had been built over the now, overflowing creek, and this time when Ben climbed it, the tree house broke and Ben fell into the water below. Beth and Keith had already left the house to look for their son, and watched him fall. While trying to reach Ben, on the way Beth fell and hurt her foot. She could go no further. Keith jumped into the river to save Ben but the current took Ben further away from his father. Keith tried to stop himself flowing away as well by clinging onto a piece of wood still intact, attached to the ground. From afar, the approaching Thibault saw what was happening. Zeus, his dog, jumped in to save Ben. Since Ben was moving with the current, Thibault couldn't get to him. However, Zeus could. He managed to save Ben. Keith drowned in the water. Thibault, Beth and Ben lived together.

One question....why didn't you want to post your thoughts on the book? Usually the review section is where you would post a review of a book you read.

I really liked The Notebook, which was written by the same author.

@bookowlie, I had read the book quite a long time ago, and right now, I can't remember all the details and what I felt and thought while reading the book. (That was before I knew about onlinebookclub.org). I have a strange habit of writing a summary of a book as soon as I finish reading it. I had my summary of The Lucky One lying around so I decided to type it out

That's interesting that you have a havit of writing a summary of a book right after you reading it. There is a subforum here called "Authors" where members discuss different authors. There is a discussion there about Nicholas Sparks' books, although I don't remember how recently the topic was discussed.

Do you believe in luck? Or better yet, love at first sight? In The Lucky One, Nicholas Sparks uses his classic ways of telling this story about Logan, a marine, and Elizabeth, a teacher. It begins in Iraq, Logan Thibault sees a photograph of a beautiful woman laying in the hot sand of the Middle East. He just excepted that another marine had dropped it, so he posts in on the bulletin board so that some one could claim it. When that doesn't happen, Logan retrieves the photo and carries it with him on his three tours. Some how managing to dodge bullets and car bombs left and right, along with winning a poker game or two. Once Logan's time in the marines was over, after some thinking and help from a friend he decides to track down the woman in the picture. After walking across the country for about five months or so, he finds her. Their story together takes some wild twists and turns along the way. Including the fellow marine who really owned the picture and a psychotic ex-husband.

The characters in this novel where great and just how you would imagine. A marine who is quiet, yet strong and powerful and full of talent. An ex-husband, Keith, whom I hated right off the bat. He really got under my skin and I just wanted Logan to beat him up! The son, Ben, whom I adored! He was so sweet and you just want hug him when you hear his story. Elizabeth, she was something else. She second thinks a lot of things, but what mother doesn't?And Nana, she was so lovable and hard headed at the same time.

I really enjoyed reading this one, but who doesn't enjoy Nicholas Sparks? It was a bit more simple than some of the other ones he has written. The ending was a little shocking and kinda throws you through a loop, but still good. I am not sure it this is a good thing or not, but I did not get emotional over this one. With Message in A Bottle, I cried for like ten minute.

I would recommend this to my friends of course
