I love religion. I go for anything comparative mostly, and I love to know about Goddess cults.

Sci fi fantasy is always my go to genres. I love masterpiece literature and one of my favorite books is Pride and Prejudice, but to just sit and read for fun I always turn to fantasy books.

I love epic fantasy, but I don't find a lot of thriller surprises in most of them. When I want to be shocked, I go for a cerebral thriller like Dan Brown or James Rollins. Paranormal is really fun as well.

non fiction is my go to. I like to learn to do new things especially old time type things like spinning, weaving, doing things the way my grandparents did. I also like historical novels if they are more history than romance

Now that I think about it, it's changed over the years, that's for sure. Hmm. It used to be romance, then it changed to mystery... but nowadays I'm reading a lot of romances again.

So... maybe mysteries with romance on the side? All the more better with paranormal thrown in.

My go-to is definitely romance. Not sweet and fluffy but romance that has some drama in it... where the characters are shaped by internal/external issue(s). I love romance with twists and turns, giving me something I completely didn't expect.

Something about the paranormal always draws me in. Most of the time (after starting to read the book) I find that it's paranormal romance, so I would say that's my unintentional go-to genre! Does anyone else find that they "accidentally" pick a certain genre when looking for a new book?

I'm surprised by how many people say "fantasy" though, it seems to be a very popular genre!

Honestly I like a pretty diverse selection. I tend to gravitate towards fantasy that has some basis in reality such as post-apocalyptic or books where there is just one or two things that differ from the real world. I have also really enjoyed reading biographies about people who have suffered from mental illness, but that might be because I'm in the mental health field. It is nice to see things from another perspective in that way.

Have you ever read or heard of Behind the Gates of Gomorrah? I think that you might like it if you like books about mental illness. It's about a psychologist who starts a new job in a psych ward; he walks through his day to day and experiences with the patients and how he feels at the end of the day when he goes home. It's really interesting and a good read if you are interested.

I typically go to historical fiction and/or historical romance but also really enjoy fantasy. They are of places far away either in the past or in another world and usually trigger my imagination to work full force to create these times or worlds in my mind.

I always go back to romantic comedies...especially when it's written by Susan Elizabeth Philips and Susan Andersen. I also ALWAYS go back to contemporary romance. Whenever I have the urge to re-read anything, I pick up Kristen Ashley's books.
