Falsified is a contemporary romance novel with a thrilling aspect thrown in. Published in May of 2016, author A. Akinosho takes readers on a wild ride, one that is sure to be remembered. The story was over 300 pages, but I actually finished the story in one evening, unable to put it down for even a minute.
Falsified starts off with introducing the main character in the story, Tamara. Tamara is an intelligent Assistant State Attorney in the state of New York, and finds herself kidnapped with no idea who her abductor is. Hoping someone will start looking for her soon, Tamara tries to keep track of the time that passes while she is locked in an unknown location. The story then takes a turn and jumps back five years into the past, introducing readers to a true charmer, Omar.
Omar and Tamara caught their selves stealing glances at one another on the street, and ended up running into each other later in the day. From there, their whirlwind romance takes off with a fast start, leaving them both hopelessly in love and yearning for their future together. Although she has deeper feelings than she could imagine, Tamara has always told herself that if something seems too good to be true, it is likely so. One obstacle after another jumps in their way of romance, causing Tamara to run away from what she considered her one true love. Reaching the point of heartbreak that seems almost impossible to return from, Tamara turns into a shell of her former self.
I had a few pet peeves along the way with this story, but nothing could ravel my interest in what could happen next. Always a fan of thriller stories and a classic who-done-it, I was hooked from the beginning. My main issue with this story was that practically all of the conversation between characters seemed too formal. I couldn’t imagine speaking to my best friend in such a formal way as Tamara does, and definitely not to the person I’m so deeply in love with. Although it did seem to irritate me in the beginning, I quickly became accustomed to the conversation style. This story bounces around from several different locations, and the author does well with transitioning and describing each place in a gratifying way. I could feel the Chicago wind in my hair and the warm ocean breeze from Dubai, all while totally engrossed in this novel on my couch.
Tamara was such a strong character throughout the book, but I did feel that she seemed a bit cowardly, especially with how she expressed herself. Always someone to speak my mind and express my feelings, I didn’t relate much to the main character, although I felt like I actually knew her by the ending. Omar was one of the most charming men I have ever read about, and the way he depicted his feelings towards the woman he loved was impeccable.
I am so happy to say that I have already recommended this book to a few of my friends, unable to keep this incredible story to myself, and I hope they enjoy this one as much as I did. I’m looking forward to seeing what is in store for this author in the future, and would love to see a sequel to this daring story. Unlike any romance novel I have ever read before, it wasn’t just about the sex (although there was plenty of it!) as I felt like the thriller combination made this one unlike any other. I am pleased to give Falsified a rating of 4 out of 4 stars, and am still gladly recommending it to others. Because there are some sexual scenes and obscene language, I would only recommend this book to mature readers. Dare I say this has quickly became one of my new favorites?
