40 Something A Novel About The X-Generation by Shannon Peel

Post by Birdlady1950 »

I wasn't sure whether to place this novel in drama or romance as it contains both. I finally choose romance.

In 40 Something: A Novel About the X-Generation, the readers gets an in-depth look at the lives of 5 women, some related, some not. To outsiders, each appears to have the perfect life, however they are unsatisfied and searching: neither money, children, career, or husbands have filled the holes in their lives. Unsure what they searching for, each travels a journey of discovery as their lives intersect.

Based on true stories, Peel skillfully crafted an intriguing look at the X-generation. The generation between the baby boomers, and the millennial's. Between the housewife and career woman, sexual repression and sexual revolution, paper backs and e-Readers, and so much more of the technological revolution. Women who are told they can have it all. But at what cost? Are they happier than their mother's who were housewives and mothers; who created a happy home caring for their family? Or have they traded one demon for another as they try to find the secret to happiness.

I found a well developed story-line and skillfully crafted characters who were believable. Peel paced the story correctly for the length of the book and she did not include fluff to increase the page count. A thought provoking book, filled with insight.

This book does contains language and sexual sitations which will not be appropirate for all audiences. Therefore I recommend this book for young adults and adults.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a voluntary honest book review. No one influenced my book review.
