R.I.P Kindle Kyboard

Post by KiMB00P »

:( my old kindle keyboard that I've had since 2009 got jostled in my backpack and the e-ink screen shattered. I won an eBay auction for a used one since amazon doesn't sell them anymore and was excited to receive it in the mail.

Buuuut, the previous owner hadn't charged it in a long time and the battery was too far gone. So, I watched a YouTube video and swapped the battery from my initial kindle into the eBay one and was excited that a green light showed.

I plugged it in and started to hear something funny coming from it, like static. I checked on it and I apparently shattered the screen on it while switching the batteries. Well, at least I only paid $32 for it.

The current e-ink screens are a little more than I'm willing to pay ATM so I ordered a Kindle Fire 7" on sale for $39.99. I hope it can hold up as my first kindle did for so many years. The only downside is that the battery doesn't last weeks like my old keyboard.

I have a Kindle Fire 8" and I like it a lot. I'm actually using it now lol. The battery isn't too bad. My tablet can last quite some time before it needs to be charged. The only downside to it, for me at least, is that their app store is not as good as the Google play store. Besides that minor detail, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Thanks for responding! I just got myself an iPad Pro in January that I use for apps and writing so I'm not too concerned about the app selection for the kindle fire. Just gonna use it for reading. I've been using the iPad to read on the kindle app, but it's a little heavy when I'm on the train and I have to hold it up so I don't get car sick.

I'm looking forward to the Fire!

My husband uses a kindle, and I agree with you about the appstore. If they could somehow upgrade that, they would really have something!

I think that's why I've kept most of my old devices when I have upgraded. I like having a backup just in case. Truthfully if you ever decide to invest in one of the newer kindle ereaders I would highly recommend the Voyage. To have both the lighted screen and backward and forward page turn buttons as well as the ability to still page turn on screen is very convenient.
