Tom Sawyer was my first book. I was SO chuffed with myself for actually finishing a book all by myself and remembering the story. And that was the start of the bookworm taking over. I read all Nancy Draw and Hardy Boys after that, Enid Blyton etc. And I have not stopped reading! Reading is part of my life.

One of the earliest books that was read to me was Baby Animals by Garth Williams.
It was from the Little Golden Books series. I eventually learned how to read the book.

My sister had a book called Lin's Backpack, an easy read as a 5 or so year old. I may have read something else prior but not sure.

The Folk of the Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton, I read it during summer break. I remember lying in the sun, completely absorbed by it. I've been reading since!

I'm surprised that I remember this far back. It was in the second grade for a oral book report. I picked The Phantom Tollbooth. I was so excited about the book that my book report ran for 20 minutes, then my teacher stopped me and made me sit down. I only reported on half of the book! :lol2: From then on, a love affair with books developed.

I cannot say exactly what the first book I ever read was, but I remember my mother reading books to me before bed every night. My favorite then was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. When I started reading books from our local library, the first one I checked out was James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
