The second installment in the Promise Me series, Touch Me, by Brea Viragh answers all these questions and more in a romance story that will whisk you away on a tale of love, deception, redemption, and honor.

Leda Cox, beautician and cupcake maker, moved from Florence, South Carolina to Heartwood, Virginia when she was eighteen years old. Leda befriended August McKenney, a luthier (maker of stringed instruments), when she moved to Virginia and thinks of August as family. Leda and August imagine themselves as both romantics, so when August calls in a favor, she feels like she has to help.

August wants Leda to distract his lifetime love’s fiancé, Duncan Whitaker, so August can show Isabel Cook that he loves her and that they were meant for each other. Leda knows that this plan can go wrong quick, but as Leda’s father says family sticks together. The first time she meets Duncan, she knows she is a goner. Leda feels “the tingle,” which to her means that she has found someone she could spend the rest of her life with. The attraction between them is too much to ignore, and Leda feels conflicted about what might happen with Duncan. Living in a small town, like Heartwood, could cause problems for Leda because people love to gossip. She dreams of opening up a cupcake store, so will helping August make all of her dreams come crashing down?

I enjoyed reading this book because it brings in scenarios that could happen in real life. Leda is helping August out of honor for family, but at what expense to her? She is also having an emotional struggle because she is falling for the man she is supposed to distract. Leda gets confused and knows what is right, but will she follow her heart instead? This story shows how complicated relationships can be in the real world.

The author did a great job in making you feel what Leda is feeling. I found myself laughing at Leda’s remarks and then wanting to cry when Leda felt like she was losing control. Can both, Leda and August, find love and battle through the struggles to get there? The author describes it the best when August was talking to Leda about Isabel and says, “Love finds a way, through obstacles and roadblocks and all manner of other things.” This quote was my favorite throughout the whole book because August was determined and did not want to give up on the love he felt for Isabel.

There were a couple of grammatical errors, but nothing that takes away from the story. I also felt that Leda, being the strong, independent woman she is, was more docile in the scenes with her and Isabel than I would have liked. At the beginning of the story, she showed Isabel she had some teeth, but as the story went on, I felt that the robust persona Leda depicted was gone.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would have rated this a 4 star book if it were not for the grammatical errors and what I stated above. This book will be ideal for readers that love a good romance with a couple of twists. It brings a lot of real life situations into it that makes the story more real. The storyline shows what people will do for family, as well as what they will do for themselves if they are strong enough to realize it.

You know an author is talented when they can make you feel what the characters are feeling. I'm a huge romance fan and the fact that it has twists will draw me into the story even more.

Thank you! I also enjoyed Leda's character. She is such a strong person and to move at eighteen to a place she knows nothing about says a lot about a person's character. On another note, all the characters in the book worked well together and I think that was a plus.
