The story I was always told was that my older brother named me when he was about 3 years old. My mother gave him two options for his baby sister's name: Janie or Amanda. He chose Janie. I'm actually really grateful because it's not technically an unusual name, like some of them today (I know a guy named Cannon Ball). But it is unusual enough that I have never met anyone in my age group with my name. They are all over 60 if they have the name Janie.

My mom was a fan of astronomy. Antares is my actual name. It's the north star and a Greek goddess

Neesee J wrote:Hello all. I just joined today so I'm new to all this. Looking forward to getting to know you all in the future. My name is Denise Carol, My mom was not very creative I guess, as her middle name is Denise, and my dads is Carol. ( yea i know kinda weird Carol for a male) My grandma says she was trying to write Carl but was still woozy from the delivery so added the o and made it Carol so when she realized the mistake she went with it and called him Carol.
Welcome to the group. I agree that giving a name to a child posts a challenge on creativity because if one is not creative at all, she or he will end up naming a baby after someone from the family but your name makes sense.

My paternal grandmother gave me my name. It is the Hebrew name of Mary, mother of Jesus. As Catholics, many Filipino couples name their daughters with a Maria or other variant of Mary's name.

My name is my mother's middle name, and it's also my fraternal grandmother's name. I'd rather say it's my mother's middle name though since my grandmother was a pretty terrible person. My own middle name is my birth month and the nickname my mother used to call my father by when they were dating, which is a much more creative origin story.

My name is Priyanka. I was born on the day the first lady prime minister of India - Indira Gandhi was died. My family members started calling me Indira after her name. But my mother liked her grand daughter's name - Priyanka more and hence she forced everyone to call me Priyanka and not Indira. So, here I am Priyanka.

My name is Tolulope...which means to God be thanks in Nigerian language(yoruba precisely). I think It was due to the circumstances surrounding my birth, and I came later than expected. So apparantly when I came they were thankful to God

My mom has always liked reading the Bible, so she gave my sister and me Bible names, Ester and Ruth respectively.

My parents decided to name my brother and I based on our grandfathers' names, but I only have the first letter the same with my grandfather (I'm Patricia, his name was Perfecto). They initially wanted to add a second name Anne, but my father was against it, saying it'll only make my life complicated, will take more time to write my name in school. :lol2:
