My parents considered a lot of names beforehand, including Hunter (Hunter Hoogstad, what a nightmare that would've been! Our cat is named Hunter, though :) ). However, my mom didn't want to settle on any names before her kids were actually born, so both mine and my brother's names weren't even thought of until my mom saw us after giving birth. She tells me that when she saw me, she just knew that my name was supposed to be Stephanie. I think it helped a bit that her favorite singer is Stevie Nicks. I'm sure glad that she chose the name she did--I couldn't imagine myself with any other name!

My mom wanted to give her kids unique names, my father thought "tiara" was really pretty. Thankfully my mom overruled him and I was named Sabrina after the Audrey Hepburn movie. It was great up until like 1996? when Sabrina the Teenage Witch came out. It got to the point that I'd just start saying "yes" when people responded to hearing my name with "Oh are you a witch?". Sometimes I still do

Your name is great! Every time someone calls your name, God is glorified. Tolulope, we are all blessed. But I wonder if they always call you with your first name or you have a nickname.

When I was born, my father, my maternal grandma and some of my aunts were like having a name-war when a nurse asked for a name. So I've been told that the said nurse was torn who to obey among my family members and my mom was distress. While they were fighting over MY name, my mom just shouted Armarie and the nurse wrote it down, thankfully correctly. Apparently, my mom had thought about it without telling my father. Haha..

Wow....thats intruguing, they were practicall fighting over your name you mean. Thats what u get when you are blessed with a big family.

Where I come from, we don't place, or rather we didn't use to place lots of importance on a name, and also add in the fact that I was born before the age of ultrasounds so my parents didn't know what they were having. so when i was born, my mother was torn between Mitchell and Sheila, the two missionary hospital nurses who assisted during the birth. In the end , Sheila won

My name is Valerie, I'm pretty sure they just saw it in a baby-name book and liked it, so there's not much of a story to it. However, my family is Jewish and in the Jewish faith you're supposed to name your children after deceased (probably anyways, maybe just older--I wasn't raised in the religion) relatives, but after going through the family tree and finding a "Mo", short for Moses, a Harold, a Zelda, and no names besides that that weren't taken by my older cousins, my parents decided that maybe they should abandon that tradition.

My grandfather died the day after I was born. So, to bring my grandmother a little smile on her face, I got her name - Silvia. It's a pretty rare name in my country and I always thought this story made it so much more special.

I have two names, one in my native language which is Ifeomachukwu meaning a good thing from God, and the other in English which is Victoria meaning Victory. I got both names from the circumstances surrounding my birth. My birth was a miracle. My mom told me I was given the name victoria because everybody thought I was stillborn when I was delivered after a very long and painful labour. I was neither crying nor breathing and when I was about to be taken away as dead, I suddenly gave out a loud cry and my aunt said that I am victorious over Satan and was named Victoria.

I chose it myself, after my death.
