i do enjoy reading about places I have never been to. The vivid description of Marrakesh by the authors makes me feel like I know that area very well. I agree with Kelebogile, this is why we read books.

I think reading about cultures and places you've never been is a great way to widen your world view without paying a lot of money for travel (because I'm broke). I always enjoy reading about the African culture mixed with American culture that is present in the south. I liked reading "Their Eyes Where Watching God" partly becasue of its' descriptions about Southern Florida.

That is definitely one the reasons why I love reading books. Also, when I read about a new place I like doing research about that place and finding out more about it - it helps me to visualise the setting better.

I like reading such books. Since the places are unfamiliar, I become less a critic and enjoy the book more than a situation where I'm very familiar with the place. It also enables me to use my imagination in a creative way

This is actually an interesting topic. I have always wanted to travel around the world. I have been to a few countries, but most of them was for layovers only, which sometimes I feel like doesn't count.
Reading books about other places is very fascinating. My imaginations are very vivid. Books tranport me to its settings.

So... Yes! I love reading books about places I've never been to.

It is practically impossible for any one individual to visit every places around the countries in the world. But reading books about places becomes free visa and transport of imaginary sort, that bridges the gap.

Indeed, I enjoy such books as they give a lot of insight into the worldview of people from a particular place and that would condition how I relate with them in case I find anyone from there in my own vicinity.

If you cannot travel physically you can travel mentally with a great book. Thank goodness! I love writing books with unique destinations because I love to read similar works!

Amagine wrote:In My Trip to Adele, one of the things that I liked about the book was the different settings the story took place in and the description of them. The authors vividly described the scenery of Rome, Jordan and even Las Vegas. All of these are places I've never been before.

So what about you? Do you like reading books that describe places you've never seen or been before? Why? What kind of feeling does it evoke in you?

Bonus Question: What's your favorite book that depicts a place foreign to you?
Love it. Especially the Amazon jungle.

Reading about places I have never been is one of the best thing I love about reading because the imagination makes you feel alive when you are reading. It transports you to placeS you will wish to go. Even if the places written about dont exist in real life, how the author makes you visualise the place is important. I absolutely love reading about places i have never been to especially when it makes me feel as if i am in the setting and everything in the book is around me. :)

I love reading books about places i have never seen or been to before! They give me some form of escapism from current issues i might be dealing with and current reality. Books that describe the places in depth take me there in my mind. It sort of feels like a temporary high only better. I also get encouraged to work a bit harder so i can make money to visit some of the places on my bucket list.

Yes I do it opens up my mind on what I am to expect once I make a trip to such places.
Its not possible to the culture of all nations around the world but reading about them one gets to know what people are like in those countries despite having not been there.
