Pierce Brown: Red Rising Trilogy

Post by Anirudh Badri »

Pierce Brown is the author of the Red Rising trilogy, which is currently one of my favourite sci-fi or dystopian fantasy series.

How many others here have read these books? What did you like the most about the style or the writing of Pierce Brown?
It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.

I recently read the first book of the trilogy. I found Brown's style to be very action driven, meaning that the character reflected very little in the work. I also found that this took away from his writing style because he talks about very important societal issues faced in his world and ours, but he quickly glosses over them in order to focus on the action of the book. I found the book to be like a combination of Brave New World and The Hunger Games. It assuredly left me on the edge of my seat, but it did not stimulate me intellectually.

I've read Red Rising and have book 2 sitting on my bookshelf! I really enjoyed Red Rising. Sort of a slow build, but then it got really good. I think Pierce is an excellent writer - excited to read the next two and want to pre-order #4 that is due out in January 18.

I've read the trilogy. What I liked best about the books was how unpredictable the story was. Just at the moment when I thought I knew where things were heading, I could see the story's future, and then nope. That future got slammed into a brick wall. Really kept me reading.
