8) :) Okay, Wow! This book read very fast for me. I think the pace of the books is fast for me because of the battles taking place, and the interactions of the characters.
I liked Emeline’s character. I found her to be strong, even though she thought of herself as weak. Though in pain, she continually fought off Vadim. And she is so smart, to think of manipulating the sex of the child Vadim implanted in her was another win for her. Though sometimes it did annoy me that she kept thinking she had to sacrifice herself and leave the compound for the ‘better’ of the people she loved, I grew to understand that it was a product of the psychological warfare she was under by Vadim, and her view of herself as a street kid.
Dragomir is the best. I’m sorry, I fell in love with him as soon as he took Emeline’s unborn daughter as his own. Once he discovered Emeline, he immediately sought to heal her; mind, spirit and body. I enjoyed their interactions, and as usual got some giggles from it.
OK, I’ve waited long enough. YEAASSS!!!! GARY IS THE MAN!!! So psyched to see him in his new role. Took a minute to embrace all the changes. I liked how he handled meeting Dragomir.
“You are the Carpathian who betrayed Aleksei with his woman,” Dragomir observed. “Ancient, yet young. I do not believe we have formally met.” “There was no betrayal,” the man said, clearly uncaring what anyone thought of him, already striding into the room.
And Gary was correct, as at the time, he was operating still as a human, even though he had been converted. Still clinging to his humanity as Gabrielle was doing. But, oh the changes that have occurred since. Gary Daratrazanoff is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I’m so happy that Gary recognizes that he has a lifemate, even though she is just a babe. I’m thinking that this knowledge goes a long way to helping fight off the demons. Just like Savanna did for Gregori. I am so loving the parallels here.
I appreciated how he provided advice to Dragomir concerning Emeline, giving him the perspective of why she thinks the way she does. With his life as a human and memories of the ancients he is a valued asset. I love that Mikhail sent him to be Tariq’s Second. Totally makes sense as Tariq is setting up this compound for Carpathians in the States. It will be fun to see someone else treated like Mikhail, protected despite his wants, sheltered form battle.
Tariq is the duke of the United States, or at least San Diego by order of the prince :) . With his knowledge and how he stayed up to date with humans, it makes sense. I am looking forward to the future to see how he helps connect the rest of the Carpathians with the 21rst Century. With Gary implanted as his Second, I look forward to seeing these Carpathians make great strides in the fight. I’m enjoying seeing how the Carpathians are kinda taking over different territories in order to battle the vampire and protect both human and Carpathian alike.
The ancients, wow. So glad we got to see more of them. It makes them more real for the coming books. These guys are no joke, and they band together for the better of all. Ok, and the running joke about songs is kinda fun. The discovery of Elizabeta!!! So happy she was rescued, but I don’t expect to see her for a bit. Also, as Gary stated, she’s going to have a lot of issues to work through when she does surface.
This series is great fun to read, and I look forward to more.
