I miss the stars, the scent of rain, fresh cut grass and grapes in the hot humid air. We'd hike around the river all day, catch tadpoles in the stream, build dams, stay up late catching lightning bugs and dew worms. Hanging out high in the trees to catch to good breeze. We'd have sweat lodges, drumming circles, fires and forts and there was always someone strumming a guitar. I miss that life.
I don't know why anyone would enjoy living in a city. Too many people, all in a hurry. It makes people grumpy.

Sounds idyllic. I would miss that, too.Euphoriameantime wrote:I miss the stars, the scent of rain, fresh cut grass and grapes in the hot humid air. If I were rich I would work in the city and escape to the country on the weekend and holiday at the beach.

I'd prefer to live in a small town, but like many of the things a big city has to offer.
Things I like about a small town:
it's quieter,
rents/house prices are more affordable,
being able to look up at the stars,
more freedom to be spontaneous,
and a lot more.
Things I don't like about small towns:
small town clap-trap (if you fart on one side of town, people on the other side of town usually already know about it before you've had time to even walk across town),
lack of career opportunities (the width and breadth of industry is usually limited. And if you can find a job, but don't get along with your boss or co-workers, you are trapped by a mortgage, etc. In a big city, you have more choice regarding jobs, AND if you don't like a company there are ten other options to choose from.),
the market simply isn't big enough to support many amenities I like (for example, airport, big library, museum, art gallery, live theatres, etc.).
Ideally, I'd like to work in a smallish-size town; with the sort of job that makes me happy; own enough acreage to have an orchard, gardens, greenhouse; and still close enough to a big city to get to the other amenities once in a while. For example, an international airport within a one or two hour drive would be nice. A Wendy's, Starbucks, etc is nice too. Just one or two--don't need fifty.

when speaking about the cities today's cities are yesterdays towns.
both are one and the same when there is a development in a town it grows to city. there may be few disadvantages in the city but we cant say that its not a better place for living.
Its we who have to modify, create or develop things, so the world is in over hands lets make it a better world.

in the countryside, you can count the stars and you will never stop counting. the air is fresh too, and the temperature is always perfect for reading or rolling around in the grass and playing with your dog.
