Being a fan of dystopian stories, I wanted to like this book. The initial reviewer commented on the English slowing her down. The combination of English, American, dated slang (Popo?) and word choice wasn't consistent enough to be believable as a dialect. It did move quickly and the concept is interesting. First novels in a series can be uneven as the author finds the flow and voice of the story, I look forward to reading Temptation Trials II.

I think that better editing would have fixed the problem that you have described above. I remember this book as a series where another reviewer discussed the second part. I like that this is a turn on the traditional novels of post-apocalyptic America. The Temptation Trials remind me of the Hunger Games books in that their struggles are viewed on television.

I read the second book in this series and really enjoyed it. It did make a lot of references to the first book, so I definitely will have to read it now. Politics choosing romance and love is bound to end badly.

Great review - I don't normally like this genre but it sounds interesting. The idea that people have no choice who to partner with or marry is an interesting one.

It seems the title of the book is misleading. It sounds more religious than political. However it's a good story. Well done B. Truly.

Sounds similar to the Hunger Games, and I wasn't much of a fan. I might read a couple of chapters just to try it first, though. I do like dystopian books.

Romance isn't usually my cup of tea, but the Temptation trials sound interesting (almost Hunger Games-esque... or 1984 which is what first came to mind, lol). I did like the Hunger Games though, so I think I'll give this a shot. Fingers crossed the romance isn't overbearing (though doesn't sound like it from the summary). And american's going to be tricky for me too; we use British english.

I wonder what kind of dystopian premise would mandate arranged marriages. That's typically a cultural thing and doesn't need dystopia. I'm curious as to how the reality TV show connects to this rule.
