Larry McMurtry

Post by Mel Carriere »

What do you all think about Larry McMurtry, author of "Lonesome Dove." He is by far the most imaginative Western writer alive, although he does not stay exclusively within this genre. You might be turned off by any book that was developed into a mini series, but if you have not read Lonesome Dove, you are missing out on an epic classic.

I am enjoying the Lonesome Dove series. Am starting Streets of Laredo this winter. Robert Duvall WAS Gus.

Streets of Laredo gets off to a slow start, but stick with it because it is almost as entertaining as Lonesome Dove, though not as epic. I also recommend "Dead Man's Walk," and "Comanche Moon," which are prequels.
