Bringing Sarah along

This is the discussion about the idea of bringing Sara along to the camp. According to you guys was it a good idea or was it a waste to bring her along.

I found them just up and bringing her with very strange. It was something I had to ignore and accept so that I could continue with the book because it seemed so unrealistic: "Here, this 12-year-old has nowhere to go so you keep her."

Apparently, they were on a set timeline, so they felt they couldn't postpone the trip. At least Sarah was pretty adaptable to her circumstances. She didn't seem intimidated by the men and could handle dealing with things. I liked her.

As for me, I think because Sarah embarked on that journey with them they suffered the more in the wilderness because of her disappearance.

Bringing Sarah along had been a risk that Tom wasn't willing but still opted to take. Whether it was the right thing to do or not depends on custodial and other relevant family laws. What's undeniable, though, is that it is a crucial element in paving the way for the more interesting developments in the adventure story.

I agree. The story wouldn't be as enthralling without the events it paved the way for.

That's true. For the book reader, it's a turning point. Current conventions may have something else to say.

I could see where you're coming from. I could also fathom the moral dilemma that Tom had, which made him really think that bringing Sarah is such a bad idea but still chose to do so.

Without Sarah, Tom's journey would have been quicker but not as eventful and eventually worth their while.

I think so, too. The challenges were essential parts of their adventure.

I feel like bringing Sarah along was the best solution, given the circumstances of her arrival. What else were they going to do? They couldn't leave her at the house alone, and any other solution probably would have messed up their travel plans. At least it worked out well in the end.

I agree. It may not be the most ideal thing to do but it was the best option they've got given all prevailing circumstances.

Bad idea. She wasn't ready for it. Too young and too surly.
