Oh no! will definetly keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! That's a bit rough having an earthquake and a hurricane isn't it!A24 wrote:Ok, earthquake earlier in week - now HUGE hurricane Irene. We are close to the beach in New Jersey and our county has ordered a mandatory evacuation. I'm now a few hours inland in the Pocono mountains of PA. Hope and pray all is well when we return home. Just waiting for it to hit sometime tomorrow!

Hard to believe that's a year ago .... hope ye don't give our rugby players too much of a shaking while they are down under with yeSimworm wrote:It's been exactly a year today that the 7.1 magnitude quake shook Christchurch and I think the fault line decided to have a little birthday party with a few minor aftershocks! What a crazy 12 months it has been!

No promises there, but I believe Christchurch's stadium was pretty badly damaged in the quake and there are no games being played here. They should be safe from the shakes. It would be just like the Christchurch fault lines to welcome the rest of the world to the World Cup with a decent shake right up NZ. Fingers crossed that doesnt happen.Fran wrote:Hard to believe that's a year ago .... hope ye don't give our rugby players too much of a shaking while they are down under with yeSimworm wrote:It's been exactly a year today that the 7.1 magnitude quake shook Christchurch and I think the fault line decided to have a little birthday party with a few minor aftershocks! Yep, that one T-T and it's unbelieveable that there's still people left without their house [because of the Tsunamis], living on tents.. after almost a year and a half. The government hasn't done anything.Simworm wrote:Was that the Chile one? 8.8 is very big! That's really a shame. We have the "Earthquake Commission"(a govt organisation) here and they have been a little slack with some people but most people have been given the money they need to start over again. Though, there are still people waiting and using communal portaloos and living with relatives until their houses get sorted. I hope the Chile govt gets their act together soon !Lita wrote:Yep, that one T-T and it's unbelieveable that there's still people left without their house [because of the Tsunamis], living on tents.. after almost a year and a half. When I was nine my family went on a big camping trip and out of no where it started raining and within minutes the camp site was flooded. They had a lightning storm at the same time. Where we were at you could see people dropping like flies. It was terrifying. Something like twenty two people died from being in the water when the lightning hit. A hundred or so was injured. Let me tell you, those images do not leave your head. Ever. That was the worst thing I've ever seen.
Missouri feels aftershocks from earthquakes sometimes. But its normally in the middle of the night and barely wakes you up long enough to shrug and go back to sleep. Never been in a bad earthquake.
