I really liked Toni the Superhero. It would have been a helpful book to utilize when I was still tutoring elementary students for reading skills, and the diversity of Toni's friends made me happy. I didn't really have books with good representation when I was a kid.

I rated this book 4 stars out of 4. I loved the concept of the child self image as a superhero figure as he did normal everyday activities. The drawings matched the text. The text was simple and repetitive for beginning readers. The most appealing part of this book was the kinds of extensions that you could create from this book. You culd add more activities that Toni does. You can use this as a model for your child and write your own book. Using another repetitive pharaseyou could also add to what Tomi does. The child could also add drawings to illustrate his/her own book. The book, Toni the Superhero, is a marvelous model for further activities for a very beginning reader. to me, this book is not about plot but about language structure.

I rated Toni the Superhero 4 out of 4 stars because it is simple and repetitive enough that beginning readers could figure out what's happening based on the pictures. This is a much simpler version of what is being taught to kids in Kindergarten. When I sub at my local school, I hear a lot of repetitive reading, especially with the kids that are in intervention pullouts. Great book series for helping kids gain confidence.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading and reviewing Toni the Superhero. I liked the fact that Toni though a superhero, had a normal ordinary life which children can relate to. I did not like the fact that Toni's friends were not named because I felt they would have added some color to the book. I definitely will recommend this book to other people because it is a useful book to teach young children how to read and form simple sentences.

I gave this a four out of four stars. Before reading the book, I saw the author’s comments that she designed this book to be simplistic. I think some expected more from it, so with simplicity in mind, I saw how it could be of value to young ones. I love the illustrations, and I am looking forward to the next book!

I liked this book because of the simple plot and self explanatory illustrations. Personally, I have read and reviewed the book and it drives a point home. Being a series, I definitely except a venturing into a different environment. Otherwise, I recommend the book to early childhood educators, parents and guardians of children less than 4 years.

I thought the repetitive nature of the prose would appeal to very young children who can say the first part of the line with confidence and then only have to struggle with the second part. Matching his healthy lifestyle with a superman image was a very good idea. There was nothing about this book that I didn’t like.
I agree with you. I haven't written my review yet, but have quickly read through the book. The illustrations are eye catching, and I like the repetitive nature, as well.

There's not much text in the book and the pictures are well drawn. With the pictures like these, little children can develop reading and speaking skills while using their own imagination as well.
I think it's a great beginners book, as well. I will probably read it with my youngest son, who is not yet reading.

To quote myself, "As they read together, parents can discuss the fun activities their children like and perhaps compare the activities they like to the ones Toni likes. Parents can additionally take the opportunity to discuss chores around the house and how the child can do them with a smile like Toni does." I also thought the pictures were perfect and "are appropriate for the accompanying words and give young readers plenty to look at; in fact, a couple of pictures don't even have words, they're just for looking at."
I like the idea of using this book as a conversation starter. You've brought up some great ideas on how to bring more involvement and interaction to storytime.

What a great way to use this book! I hadn't thought about that, but this book will be a nice tool for you to use. :)

Kay87 wrote: 01 Jul 2018, 20:17 I rated this book a 3 out of 4 stars. One of the key elements in any children's book is the size of the font. I thought the font in this book was lost in the fantastic graphics used in the story (they were superb). The author needs to work on this otherwise the book was ok.
That is an interesting point. I wonder if the font size is any different in the paperback version.

I haven't written my review yet, but I'm leaning towards a 4 star rating. The illustrations are fun and eye-catching, and I like the idea of labeling Toni as a superhero, and then going into the everyday things he enjoys. My youngest son has a speech delay, so I think the repetitive nature of this book will help us with that aspect, as well as the aspect of learning to read.

I rated the book 4 out 4 stars. I love the illustrations and the simple story line. R. D. Base achieved her goal. The book was particularly written for young children still learning to read and needs practice.

I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the rich color of the pages and the simple sentences for a very young child. I would've liked to see Toni running and swimming in his superhero costume since he was jumping and doing everything else in it. Maybe it's my adult brain, but it wasn't clear as to why he is a superhero. The lesson of the story could've been bluntly issued at the end about Toni being a superhero because he helps with chores around the house or he isn't afraid to do everyday things dressed in a costume. Perhaps a lesson to dare to be different.
As a mom, I think the reading of the book and using it as a good book to introduce reading to a child is good.

I thought the book was terrific so I gave it a perfect score (4/4). The author's simple language allows young readers to engage with the book easily. I found the illustrations beautiful and appropriate for the targeted age group. Base did a good job with this one!
