I prefer not to have any type of music on because it can divert my concentration away from the story and plot of that book.

no, not very often because for me the music is really a distraction or I'm so absorbed in the book, that the music has no effect

It depends on what kind of book I'm reading if it's a long book I tend not to put on music so I can concentrate on reading

I love to listen to Nickelback, Lady Gaga, some country western and other pop/ hip hop music on my MP3 player.

No. I feel as if it distracts me and takes me away from the book I am reading.

I don't. I usually prefer complete silence or complete chaos around me when I am trying to get something done. I don't like ambient music or the like, because I tend to start focusing on it as opposed to whatever I am trying to do. If I study, it either needs to be in a library or outside around people. While reading, I prefer silence, as I tend to get lost in the music as opposed to the novel, regardless of genre or pace.

I would listen to music 24/7, if it weren't for books.

It just depends on my mood. Sometimes I have music and other times I don't. My mood will also determine the type of music I have playing.

it depends. Sometime, listen to the relaxed music while reading, it helps us to get attracted to the book even better. For example, when you read about romance stories, you may want to listen to some of Ed Sheeren or Taylor Swift song. It makes your brain more relaxed. However, when you read the climax part of the book, like when there is a fight or something, you listen to some rock song. Listening to music while reading, sometimes make us feels like we are watching a movie instead.

I've tried reading with ambient music in the background but I just found it too distracting. Silence is preferable.

Never. I love music but when I read I am completely immersed in the book and do not like distractions.
