I have burned old magazines, not sure if that counts. But now i make paperbeads. Pinterest is full of ideas on what one can do with old books. Eg. Faux book spines that lead to secret box, box page art, and more!

While I generally abhor doing any damage to books, I will confess that I once burned a copy of Twilight.

Never to keep one out of circulation. Burning books to keep others from being exposed to the ideas in them seems to me to be a supremely arrogant concept. However, on a wilderness lookout I came across a musty box of deteriorating books behind the firewood. I salvaged anything that could be even mostly pieced back together. The remains of the others went into the fire, but at that point, they weren't so much books as stuck together moldy paper.
You can't put a rope around the neck of an idea.

No, I haven't. I totally get where you're coming from, but I couldn't. I can hardly even imagine recycling a book. I either give books I don't what to family/friends or a library. Books are too nice to burn.

Always wanted to- this one book had real significance for me and when something misfortunate happened in my life I wanted to burn the book and what it symbolized so badly; I chose not to for last minute guilt of not appreciating what I have and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

I must confess, once when back packing, my friend and I didn't want to carry out the trashy paperbacks we had read so we used them to stoke the campfire.
But normally I would recycle them or trade them at the used book store.

NEVER! Burning books makes me wince at the though!
Crap happens; it's inevitable, it's a part of life. You can't let it destroy though, you learn to be stronger and wiser through the crappy things that happen.

I've never burnt a book but I did intentionally trash a book once (ripped pages out and threw in garbage can). It had been given to me (was not in good condition) when I was a teen. I tried to read it but after the second very graphic rape scene and a continuous stream of verbal and graphic abuse scenes I couldn't take more. It fit one of the "evil' definitions of a book I have. As a teenage girl I was appalled that people treated someone that way and considered it entertaining enough to write a story about it. To this day I do not regret my choice. At the time recycling had not been 'invented' as a social choice but even if it had I would have made the same decision on that particular book.

Guilty of tossing Breaking dawn into the fire, it survived (man that book is immortal), I almost tossed New Moon in as well, they just upset me so much.
