Despite repeated efforts I cannot figure A Clockwork Orange ... I finished it but I still have no idea what it was about - guess I'm just not the 'target audience'. Another book that failed to impact me was The Catcher in the Rye ... I just found him to be a most annoying pain in the ass.Fran wrote:laci_baby wrote:I agree with Bridges of Madison County... i couldnt get through that if my life depended on it.
It took me forever to finish A Clockwork Orange mostly because of the slang he created... but i did eventually finish it and adore it.
I cannot for the life of me finish Lily of the Valley. I've tried three times, and will continue to try but i dont see an end in sight.
Shocking I know ... two 'cult' books that just left me cold.[/quote
Fran I'm 100% behind you with that Catcher in the Rye book, I thought it was so boring that I didn't know what I was reading anymore. Don't wish to go back to it at all!

I completely agree on both accounts.
Catcher in The Rye was just... IDK what it was LOL boring and uneventful at best IMO.
A Clockwork Orange wasn't much better either. I saw the movie before I even know there was a book and the movie was so confusing that I thought the book might clear the fog. It didn't. I tried three times and never finished it.
The most recent failure of mine was Under The Dome. I do not even have a reason why, I loved the first half of the book and just never got around to finishing it...

Well if you do get around to finishing it, i would love to know what you think, the ending of that book is the stuff of legend amongst King fans.Slevinkal wrote:Good, bad, or ugly, it doesn't matter to me. I just like to readStephenKingman wrote: Dont bother, the ending will break your heart!

Love in the Time of Cholera is a truly beautiful book IMO ... I loved it though, as you say, it is an emotional bookAngiebumanglag wrote:the one book i never finished reading is "love in times of Cholera" not being able to finish it doesn't mean that i find it boring but i can not go through the whole book because it makes me so emotional.

One that quickly comes to mind is "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. This book was suggested to me by many many people so I picked it up and got maybe halfway through it and just didn't find it funny or interesting.

"The last of the mohicans" I liked that one ... thought it was quite an entertaining read ... I think I kept it on my shelf as one I will probably (hopefully) read again sometime in the future.

Is "The Last of the Mohicans" as good as the movie? I enjoyed the movie.Fran wrote:GotThatSwing wrote:I couldn't get through "Master and Margarita". I'm not really into grotesque. And "The last of the mohicans" - I had to put it away after few pages. It was impossible for me to read

Well I thought it was every bit as good as the movie ... and as Mike would says it's a short read - so if you don't like it you haven't wasted much of your life.Mairin wrote:Is "The Last of the Mohicans" as good as the movie?
