No, with smartphones at hand I will usually just do things on my phone while waiting - including playing games (naturally with the sound off...). I think I would feel too aware of the other strangers in the quiet room to really immerse myself in the story of the book.

Yeah I've definitely done this several times. It's sometimes hard for me to read if the waiting room is too noisy, but I can't stand the things they play on TV and have no interest in the magazines, so it's a nice alternative to just being on my phone the whole time.
