I only interrupt if the person is in a waiting room and is so engrossed they don't realize they are being called.

I do feel it is rude to interrupt someone while reading. My family likes to read a lot and I never call to them while they are reading, unless it is something important. When I'm the one reading, it annoys me to have someone trying to talk to me or keep interrupting me for something irrelevant.

I read at work a lot and it does annoy me when someone keeps interrupting while I'm reading (of course not when it's work related).

Wow, I do not think it is rude to interrupt someone reading. If I see someone who are very keen and very interesting to read that book, then I would know I should not interrupt. Why is it rude?

Whenever someone attempts to interrupt my reading I wait until they are done yapping then I look at them and say:

"I'm sorry but I was paying absolutely no attention to what you were saying" and return my attention to my book. It doesnt always work but is still satisfying.

I definitely agree that it depends on the situation.

Though personally I am not usually too bothered about being interrupted when reading (unless it is constant interruptions, those are definitely very frustrating and inconsiderate), I know that a lot of people really dislike it so I wouldn't interrupt someone reading unless I had a good reason to.

I feel that it depends on how well you know the person that is reading. It's rude when you are interrupted by a complete stranger while reading. But I think that if you are trying to focus on what you are reading, you should read in a place where you won't be interrupted. Otherwise, you can't say it's rude when someone interrupts you if you are reading in a public/social atmosphere.

Personally I do think that it is rude to interrupt someone while he or she is reading. However, if it is important I can understand.

I do feel that it is rude to interrupt someone when they are reading. I am always interrupted and I hate it because I lose track of where I was and have to re-read parts to get back to the exact spot. Since it bothers me I try not to interrupt people reading or engrossed in some activity like watching a movie.

I say it's rude no matter what, unless it's an emergency. When I fall into my imagination mode its aggravating to bug me for stupid things.

Yes, it is incredibly rude.
I’m off in my world of imagination.
Leave me alone, please.
Unless, of course, it’s an emergency.
what’s for dinner|?? - is not an emergency.

I don't think it is rude to interrupt someone who is reading unless they are studying for an exam or something. Life still goes on when we are reading. When I am reading my wife will interrupt sometime and have me take care of something or my kids will interrupt but that is life. It can be really annoying but if I get interrupted enough I may need to find somewhere else to read or a different time to read when life is calmer.
