Weldors(I was one) use freshly peeled potato skins to avoid burning their eyes.
If you feel your eyes going weak(you might be wide-awake but your eyes want
to take a nap) peel some and get em up there, quick. This doesn't happen very often.
But when it does, it's really painful. It feels like someone put 100 grit under your eyelids and is ice skating on top of your eyeballs. Contrary to the folklore the most prevalent injury to weldors is not flash burned eyes. It's losses to hearing. I worked at a place
that gave everyone an eye and hearing test every year. 25% of the guys I worked with
tested "Deaf". They never used their earplugs when they used the pneumatic tools.
Grinders, air arc, needle guns all were powered by compressors. And they were noisy enough by themselves to render you deaf. My most common injury was fingers. They
got mashed more than a few times. I want to thank everyone who asked me all these questions. (Wink,wink) The pleasure is mine. Mothers don't let your sons grow up to be weldors. Law school is a much better option.
