Spring is long past. The grasses have traded their green supple texture for the dry crinkly colors of browns and tans. Like waves of three to four days duration, the temperature climbs to around a hundred degrees in Fahrenheit, and then it dips down to the seventies for a similar period. If the breeze comes from the west, it carries the cool blessings of the Pacific Ocean, but if it comes from the east, the furnace heat of the inland valley visits me. This is a lazy time for me – an opportunity to get caught up on my reading.
