Deferred Consumption by Shana James is a book in the romance genre. It is the first book in the Consumption series.

Life couldn’t be more perfect for twenty-eight year old Heather Rangel. A successful career as an investment banker and an attractive, rising tennis star as her fiancé, what more could she ask for. Heather’s happiness is going to be complete soon since Brody, her fiancé, is leaving for an international tour that will establish him in the professional circuit. Though sad about the prospect of being apart for a couple of months, Heather is happy that Brody is about to achieve his dream and she will not let her problems interfere with his success. Not even when that problem is a millionaire Russian client with suspected terror links, who has made his interest in Heather quite clear. Ignoring the unwanted attentions of this client was already difficult for Heather, when she discovers that he is one of the conspirators in a cruel plot set to destroy plenty of innocent people. Will Heather save her relationship with Brody or will hiding her troubles from him ultimately cause a rift between them?

The story is a good mix of romantic and thriller elements. There are some really steamy and passionate scenes in the book which raise the temperature of the story. The author has penned down some good dramatic events in the story and there is one major unpredictable twist, which made the book all the more interesting. However, after this plot twist, the story starts to falter a bit and is not able to maintain the suspense level.

The author has given us two really lovable characters in Heather and Brody. Heather is the quintessential beautiful, intelligent and perfect heroine while Brody is the typical playboy-turned-lover boy in the story. While this could have been the setting for a cliché story, the author presents the lead characters in a way that makes them seem so sincere and genuine in their affections. The author provides the characters with certain of depth of character which would endear them to the readers. The other character I really liked a lot was Jennifer. Her cool attitude and concern for her friend’s (Heather's) well being, to the extent which makes her situation vulnerable, makes her character quite likable.

Though I really like the plot, I felt that after three-fourths of the book was over, the story got a bit rushed towards the end. The build up for the climax, which was soaring up till then, starts descending after this point. The end was sudden and left me wanting more from the story. I guess the author is going to pick up the threads from the end of this book and delve deeper into the story in her subsequent novels. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I would really recommend readers who like romantic thrillers to try this one.

Hi! Thanks for the review. Your feedback will be very helpful in my journey to becoming a full-time author. When I started writing this book, I had originally planned to only submit to publishers for consideration, but the more I researched, the more it made sense to simply publish the book on my own. Before I came to that decision, when the manuscript was finished, it was over 82,000 words but most publishers didn't want that many for romantic suspense, so I began cutting...and cutting, and cutting. It was painful. lol I probably should have taken more time to add those portions that I'd cut away back to the final manuscript before I published, but I was too anxious! lol Next time, I'll be more focused, I'll know that I'm doing it for myself and so on and I think it will make things much more balanced, eliminating that rushed feeling.

well compile base line about woman snare within thinking about fantasy and minding e going on composite ON OTHER behavior watching and keep self talkative self on anxiety within mind its that type for understood value of mind and behavior is how came in sighting cast to blinking an eye to torch a idea ...
