The Lion Tamer

Post by smiley0905 »

Marco was born with the blood of magic. His ancestors had long been able to wield the four elements of fire, earth, water, and wind merely with their minds. Some gifted members of the clan also possessed the rare ability of taming other creatures. As for Marco, he wanted to be a tamer of lions. Lions were considered kings of the jungle, so it would be a crown of glory if Marco was able to rule over them. The king of kings. Marco lived a double life. On weekdays, he looked as normal as could be, wearing daily a crisp, collared shirt with slacks when he went to work at a small office in town. He worked as an assistant to a journalist named George. George was an easygoing type of boss who treated his subordinates almost like friends, and thus, Marco was able to easily earn his trust and confidence. During the weekends, Marco went back to his clan’s home deep in the woods where he worked to master wielding the elements and practiced taming the wild ones. Every weekend, he hunted his prey, the next wild one he wanted to tame. In his room, he had a net full of carcasses and skin of those he attempted but failed to tame and so had to kill.
On this one particular sunny day, Marco was up in the air in a helicopter with George. They were out for George’s article for the month. The main subject of his article were lions, and Marco insisted to come when he found out.
They were flying over a field of poppies, filming the background in order for George to accurately recreate the scene in writing later on. A majestic lion with his soft caramel mane and fur shifting with the wind walked slowly towards the center of the field. Marco watched him intently from the helicopter while George’s eyes glittered with excitement.
“Move closer,” George instructed the pilot.
When they were hovering closer to the center of the field, George again instructed the pilot to move closer.
“This is as close as I can get you,” Bernard, the pilot said.
“Alright, bring it lower,” George answered with an impatient tone. They were only about three feet from the ground, but were now off to the side to avoid getting too close to the lion.
George was about to get off when the lion moved its head in their direction, and started walking towards them. When George saw this, he was startled and somehow lost his footing and fell from the helicopter, hitting his head on the ground and immediately laid unconscious. The lion surged forward. Marco jumped off the helicopter. He looked the lion in the eyes but only succeeded in slowing him down. The lion did not stop. He saw his prey and he still wanted it.
Only miles away, the beautiful, young witch, Mara stopped and smelled the wind. She recognized the smell of the cursed village. It was the home of their long rivaled clan. She pulled out a map and traced her fingers across it, stopping at a particular point in the north. She smiled. She found them. Even from where she was standing, she could already smell the stench of their blood. She took the pipe out of her mouth.
