Book series turned movie. BUT never finished!
Any one else have this happen? Obviously Firefly shouldn't have been canceled but any other series that you wish would have been made into more movies?

The book series is very near and dear to my heart and I was looking forward to a sequel but after 10+ years I can safely assume that there won't be a new film entry. (I saw the movie adaptation before diving into the books btw).
I also felt very cheated by the latest 'Chronicles of Narnia' movie. Ugh, the Dawn Treader was always my least favourite of the stories, but I'm still mad about how much of the book was cut from the film... They weren't very faithful to it... Which annoyed me greatly, since they did such a wonderful job with 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'
I leave you with one word.
'Eragon'.

Personally I feel quite betrayed by what happened with the 'His Dark Materials' movie adaptation, 'The Golden Compass'.

Also, this movie hasn't come out yet, but I am hoping that it doesn't fall into this category when all is said and done, but Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children is a spectacular YA book. I truly hope they do the whole series as a movie because I think the story is terrific. It's such a good book, though!

RE: House Elves
Winky was such a sweet little thing! I'm so sad she was left out :'(
Spiderwick was also a fascinating movie.. I have no idea why they didn't carry on with them. It seems that there's a trend when it comes to the movie adaptations.
OH AND ANOTHER ADAPTATION THAT REALLY DIDN'T LIVE UP TO THE HYPE WAS 'Child 44'. (Which isn't a YA novel, but it's such a good book). Even Tom Hardy couldn't save that one...
They left out so much... It was so weak.

Oh yeah! I've heard of that. I've seen the trailer for it, and I have to say I'm intrigued. I'll have to read the actual book too

Oh, and like others here, I would have also loved to see more Spiderwick movies.
