Review of Verity Easton
The mystery and suspense novel " Verity Easton" by M. Rebecca Wildsmith transports the reader to the early 1900s and chronicles the life of Verity, a young child who always follows wherever her father, whom she calls "Professor," takes her on because he works as an archaeologist at the British Museum. When Verity was thirteen years old, she and the professor arrived in Egypt to begin the professor's archaeological work. However, the story will follow Verity through several years of her life and her time spent in the deserts with the professor.
Being the daughter of a deceased Egyptian woman, Verity will be captivated by Egyptian history and culture. However, she will find it tedious to be her father's nearly unappreciated assistant, therefore she will look for some friends to go with her during this time. Lady Bethy, a stunning young woman, will educate her a little about the culture and etiquette a little girl should exhibit in society, and Mr. Rashidi, a fascinating guy who is constantly concerned for Verity and her well-being.
But even a naive young girl keeps secrets in her mind, because even though Verity is an innocent girl with a terrible aversion to blood or wounds, some nights she experiences terrible nightmares that leave her feeling sick when she wakes up; also, terrible crimes start happening around her, and a lot of mysteries start revealing themselves to her. To find out how this young girl will get through all this, get a copy of this fascinating book.
The author has done an excellent job at illustrating several aspects of Egyptian culture and customs, including how they followed religion and how the wealthy society of the time interacted. Additionally, there are many secrets, lies, and duplicity in Egyptian history; this book will highlight a few of these mysteries that are still unknown today.
Also, the descriptions of the difficulties Professor Easton faced while trying to pursue his dream of finding Nefertiti's tomb, all the problems archaeologists can have trying to find the resources to find the answers, and the years of study and dedication involved were amazingly detailed and were very emotional for me to read.
On the other hand, some aspects of the story did not allow me to fully enjoy the book. First, the beginning is very slow, and it is not completely clear where the author wants to take us. It is not until very far into the book that the story starts to develop completely. And second, the time in which the story is introduced is not mentioned, which made it a little hard to connect with the idea of the society or culture being described, and later it is mentioned that time has passed, but it is not specified how much time has passed between scenes.
In addition to demonstrating an extensive level of research into the historical facts described, the author came up with an engaging novel with incredible details that keep the reader engaged. It was also well edited, since I could not find any errors in it. As a result, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars due to the above listed issues. I recommend this book to historical fiction fanatics, especially those interested in ancient Egyptian history and in paranormal mysteries.
