“Me and You in the Big Green Canoe” by Stephanie Crane and Joanne Deter is a stunning children's book that is engaging and easy to read. I would rate the book a 5 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed all the different animal characters working together to navigate the river safely. As Cody Bear and his animal friends go down the river, they meet many challenges that they have to face to achieve their goal. The illustrations are excellent and I could not find one grammatical error in the book. It was fun to see all the different hidden details included in the pictures. Also, I liked how when each animal was introduced, they had an individual picture of them above the words. This makes it easier for kids to see what the different animals look like so they can make connections between the animal’s name and the picture. You can find something new in each picture whenever you look at it. It was incredibly cool to see the beauty of the Minnesota Northwoods portrayed in the book. Also, my kids loved to find the duck in each picture. The authors' repetitive saying of “paddle… swish..” is great for kids because they can even chime in on the other pages when they see that it is a pattern.

As a teacher, I find the book a great way of introducing rhyme schemes to children in a fun and engaging way. Also, the book includes outstanding morals like inclusion and teamwork that somebody could also turn into a lesson in the classroom.

One thing I would say, as a colorblind person, is that the text is a little hard for me personally to see. On some pages, words start to match the background, which makes it hard to see at some points of the story; however, that is the only negative that I have. I would recommend this book to all parents and teachers.
